Good
Morning from Udhailiyah – KSA.
My wife
Jakki and I were saddened to
hear of the sudden demise of Dougie, the world, and Corby in particular has lost
a true character, I doubt if in our lifetime we will ever meet someone of
similar characteristics, a guy who has been on top and at the bottom of life’s
ups and downs so many times, but, in himself always managed to blast the past
and look to the future for whatever it had to hold for him.
Our thoughts
will be with his family and close pals, “Priecigi
Caur Dzivi Ejaum” (Happily through Life’s Passage)
Thanks for the
message, Regards Arvid &
Jakki Koris.

Really sorry to hear about Dougie .. I remember how much an impression he
made on me when I first started there (no pun intended) I feel really sad
now, I remember him and Chris John coming home with me one night and
meeting my mum and dad, my dad was in fits of laughter at Dougie talking about
his Radio Caroline Days .. also remember being in early one day April 1st
.. and him telling everyone Radio Forth was sailing round the bass rock!
People were phoning in saying they could see us!! Ah fond memories, they were
the best days of my life... God Bless him x

Sorry
to hear that Dougie has passed away. I remember seeing the
picture of the original lineup running down the Castle Esplanade way
back in 1975! Sadly we don't seem to have any archive pictures of
Dougie and the rest of the team. However, should we manage to source
any then we will scan then and send you copies. Perhaps trying to lay
your hands on a copy of The Story of Radio Forth might help?
If we can do anything else then give us a shout,
Kindest regards,
Ross Wilson
Marketing Assistant,
Radio Forth

jot down things that I can
remember and send you copies of the photos

We worked together in the 80's
at Hereward Radio in Peterborough and when I finished my stint
there, Dougie gave me the most
brilliant of send offs. As soon as we finished our shows at mid-day
we jumped inside his cab (yes a
taxi driver aswell in those days) and headed for his beloved Corby.
On arrival we made for the
nearest watering hole which was followed by the longest pub & club crawl
I'd ever experienced at that
stage in my life which must have lasted a good 13 or 14 hours by which
time we'd drunk ourselves
completely sober. Once we got back to his place, he then preceded to
make me one of his legendary
curries which contained 'fish' of all things with various other ingredients
- I dread to think what they
might have been now!!!!
A couple of years later, he
came over to the Grand Duchy to stay at my place when I was working at
Radio Luxembourg. It was only a
fleeting visit but as he was a huge radio fan, I knew how much it meant
to him seeing 'The Great 208'
in action. We wolfed down a fair amount of Bittburgers & Bofferdings on
that occasion too and he also
clogged up the plughole in my shower I seem to recall.
Aaaah, great memories of 'The
King'......a legend........I shall miss him a lot, he was a true friend!!!!

I first met Dougie in 1972
when he was running his mobile roadshow,we became
instant mates,i was involved at the time with a land based pirate radio
station called Radio Free Leicester and when i told dougie of this he
wanted
to join so within a few weeks he became a DJ on RFL,i think this was his
first radio gig be it illegal.
He wasn't with us for long as he took himself of to holland to try to join
the then recently re launched Radio Caroline on the Mi amigo,i believe he
did go out to the ship but he did'nt go on air and returned back to Corby
and his road show gigs,he breifly rejoined our pirate station but also
made
a demo tape to send out to the new local commercial radio stations that were
springing up in 1973/74,he was delighted to be excepted by Radio Forth in
Edinburgh and he packed his bags to head back north of the border.
I lost contact with him for a few years untill 1980 when he appeared at the
new station in Peterbourogh,Hereward radio,we had a chance to work
together on the oldies station that Hereward radio set up in 1992 WGMS and i
would
see him around the studios when i went in to do my show.
The last time i worked with Dougie was in Gibraltar in 1996 on a station
called The Rock FM were i was one of the management team.
Dougie was allways great fun to be with and had me in stiches on many an
occassion with is jokes and humour and i will allways remember him as a good
mate and a great broadcaster
Best wishes
Paul Graham.
